So Dave and I took Jessa to meet with Dr. Gaebler at the Rehab Institute of Chicago this morning.  Since Jessa will most likely need ongoing follow-ups with specialty doctors, we have decided it is best to move her care from Mayo Clininc in MN, to here in the city. 
Dr. Gaebler explained to us that Jessa's clinical symptoms present as cerebral palsy, therefore she is being treated as a cerbral palsy patient. 
"Cerebral palsy is a term used to describe a group of chronic conditions affecting body movement and muscle coordination. It is caused by damage to one or more specific areas of the brain, usually occurring during fetal development; before, during, or shortly after birth; or during infancy. Thus, these disorders are not caused by problems in the muscles or nerves. Instead, faulty development or damage to motor areas in the brain disrupt the brain’s ability to adequately control movement and posture."
We will be seen by Dr. Sentango, a GI doc over at Comers Childrens Hospital.  Jessa's poor weight gain is a major concern.  Her current weight is 14lbs 1oz.  Jessa has delayed gastric emptying..basically her stomach takes longer to digest the food.  We will also be seen by Dr. Berry-Cravitz, a neurologist at Rush.  Jessa continues with PT, OT, DVT and SFT throughout the week.  She is now wearing theratogs under her clothes.   They are an orthotic undergarment and strapping system designed for a child with sensorimotor impairment.  They improve posture, balance, movement skills and increase body awareness.  And eventually she will be fitted for AFO's (ankle foot orthotics).  Jessa's ankle/feet rotate inward, so this will help correct, and prepare her for weight bearing.
We feel that Jessa has been through enough testing for now.  Both Mayo and Childrens Hospital were extremely thorough and explored multiple possibilities. Although cerebral palsy is a clinical diagnosis, its also a "basket" in which several conditions are thrown into.  Hypotonia, developmental delay and seizures are some of the "conditions" that are thrown into this basket term. 
Jessa is moving along very well :)  When she has her theratogs on, she is able to sit straight and hold her head up on her own for several minutes!  She likes to be held upright now so that she can see whats going on.  And she has 6 teeth already! With nice spacing too! Lol!
